The 16-bit PIC CAN bootloader for 16-bit Microchip™ devices consists of firmware and software for PC.

The firmware is located in the non-volatile memory of the MCU/DSC and allows the device to be reprogrammed by using a CAN bus and a master device that guides the process.

The PC software acts as the master in the process and allows for selecting the CAN device to be used, the communication baud rate, the bootloader ID messages, the CAN node to bootload, etc.

It also includes a checksum operation at the end of programming process.
