Lightstreamer is a scalable and reliable Server used to push live data to Rich Internet Applications based on the AJAX-Comet paradigm, it streams real-time data to any Web browser, without installing anything on the client. Both HTML and Flex applications can receive live data from Lightstreamer, as well as traditional thick clients. Lightstreamer has been used in many mission-critical production systems, where scalability, low network impact, bandwidth management, adaptive streaming, and other advanced features, have proven fundamental.

  • Combines AJAX with Scalable Data Push The advent of Web 2.0 and AJAX has made the Web user’s experience very similar to that provided by traditional desktop applications. Lightstreamer enhances AJAX even further with live data delivery based on a high-performance and scalable architecture.
  • Builds on Existing Architecture Lightstreamer’s role is to deliver live data updates while an existing Web server continues to deliver the static parts of the pages. Lightstreamer Server gets the realtime data from any data feed and integrates seamlessly with Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) to add push functionality to any type of client.
  • Saves Bandwidth & Simplifies Security Issues Due to bandwidth management, congestion control, adaptive streaming and multiplexing techniques, the utilized bandwidth and the load on the infrastructure are minimized. Live data passes through proxies and firewalls and the data delivery does not rely on Java applets or ActiveX controls which are blocked by some security policies.
  • Reduces Maintenance & Support Costs Since no Java applets are used to implement data streaming, only HTML and JavaScript skills are required to remodel the web pages, reducing the ongoing maintenance and support overhead.
  • Lightstreamer Server runs on any platform compatible with Java Platform, Standard Edition 1.4.2 or newer.
  • Java SE 6 is recommended for best performance. On the client side, most Web browsers are supported.
