The FocalPoint product line comprises a complete range of full-featured, high performance Layer 2 and Layer 2/3/4 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch/router chips. Fulcrum has achieved industry leading latency, power efficiency and throughput performance while offering a complete suite of Ethernet and TCP/IP functions. FocalPoint also provides a number of enhancements designed to catalyze Ethernet’s evolution as the single, converged interconnect of choice in the datacenter.


The FocalPoint FM2000, FM3000 and FM4000 devices are available in a variety of pin compatible port configurations with up to 24 ports of full line rate switching and routing functions.


The single chip FM2000 devices deliver a robust set of switching capabilities including VLAN support, security, link aggregation, management, statistics and more.


To that, the FM3000 series adds significant Layer 2 enhancements. With features such as Access Control Lists (ACL’s), in-band management, multi-chip tag-based switching, Virtual Output Queue Congestion Notification and Classbased Pause, the devices can effectively form the basis of a lossless telecommunications backplane switch fabric.


The FM4000 series further builds upon these capabilities by adding a comprehensive suite of Layer 3/4 TCP/IP features and advanced security, congestion management and system management capabilities. These switches contain all the features necessary to enable Ethernet as the single, converged datacenter fabric.

  • Industry leading latency as low as 200 ns Layer 2 and 300 ns Layer 3, allows the construction of highly scalable clos architectures and enhances the effectiveness of congestion management functions.
  • A sophisticated Policy Engine allowing forwarding decisions and modification of packets based on L2/L3/L4 header information enables the enforcement of policies related to security, monitoring and traffic management.
  • The option to use in-band management facilitates system design while conserving space, power and cost in multi-chip systems.
  • The combination of Class-based Pause and Congestion Notification allows the design of backplanes with lossless packet transmission characteristics.
