Emerson Network Power Previews New Server-Class Product based on ATCA Technology for Applications beyond the Central Office
Bladed server will improve serviceability, power and space efficiency over commercial rack mount servers
NUREMBERG, Germany [March 3, 2009] – Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical ContinuityTM, today previewed a new server platform based on AdvancedTCA® (ATCA®) technology to provide commercial applications with improved serviceability, power and space efficiency over commercial rack mount servers. The new bladed server is designed for applications where reliability or bill-per-minute are critical, including content serving, high-end processing arrays, web and data hosting, network-centric warfare, data manipulation/distribution and process management, batch control and data logging.
The 3U high bladed server includes one or two high performance server blades each featuring two processors based on the next generation Intel® Xeon® processor. Each blade supports up to 48GB DDR memory, two individually hot swappable SAS hard drives and two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces on a rear transition module (RTM). The bladed server is optimized for 35°C commercial or data center environments rather than 55°C NEBS.

The changes implemented by Emerson allow significant cost to be removed from ATCA products that target commercial environments.”
The preview of this bladed server at the Embedded World exhibition is a first step in a new Emerson Network Power strategy, driven by its Embedded Computing business, to invest in a diversified product portfolio with the aim of becoming the supplier of choice, not only for telecom, but also for industrial and commercial original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
