IEEE Council on EDA Honors Igor Markov with Early Career Award
Professor Igor L. Markov, associate professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Michigan, has been chosen as the first recipient of the Early Career Award from the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA). Professor Markov will be recognized for his outstanding contributions to algorithms, methodologies and software for the physical design of integrated circuits in the early stages of his career during the International Conference on Computer Aided Design (ICCAD) in November. His Capo fixed-die placer for standard-cell layouts set a standard for open access and is widely used by EDA companies and university researchers. Professor Markov received a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA.

Atmel Appoints Joerg Strughold European Sales VP
Atmel Corporation appointed Joerg Strughold as Vice President of European Sales. Joerg joins Atmel from Qimonda, the former memory division of Infineon Technologies, where he was global head of sales and marketing as well as regional president for the European region. He has 15 years of international semiconductor business experience.
Jim Ballingall Becomes VP of Marketing for GLOBALFOUNDRIES
GLOBALFOUNDRIES named Jim Ballingall to be responsible for developing and implementing marketing solutions and strategies to support the growth of company as it aims to reshape the landscape of the foundry industry. He had been president of Ballingall Consulting as well as CEO, president and chairman of GetSilicon. Ballingall holds a bachelor’s in engineering physics from the University of California, Berkeley, and both a master’s and doctorate in applied physics from Cornell University.

Dr. Randal E. Bryant to Receive Phil Kaufman Award
Dr. Randal E. Bryant, Dean and University Professor of the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, will receive this year’s Phil Kaufman Award for his impact in theory and practice on Electronic Design Automation (EDA). His research focuses on methods for formally verifying digital hardware and some forms of software. Notably, he developed efficient algorithms based on ordered binary decision diagrams (OBDDs) to manipulate the logic functions that form the basis for computer designs. An IEEE and ACM Fellow and a member of the National Academy of Engineering, Bryant earned a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from the University of Michigan, and a doctorate in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT.

Inphi Names Atul Shingal VP of Operations
Inphi Corporation has hired industry veteran Atul Shingal to be its new vice president of operations. He is an experienced global technology leader who excels at developing private start-ups into public companies and will be in charge of the company’s rap manufacturing and production operations. He brings more than 22 years of international operations, engineering and quality management, and IT experience to the company. Shingal earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Government Engineering College, India; a master’s degree in electrical engineering from San Jose (California) State University; and an MBA from Pune University, India.
Kilopass Appoints Lee Cleveland as VP of Engineering
Kilopass Technology named Lee Cleveland as Vice President of Engineering. Lee brings extensive NVM experience from AMD and Spansion, as well as valuable start-up executive success from Sipex, now part of Exar. Hi was directly responsible for several generations of platform products, earning 61 patents in algorithms, circuits, processes and testing techniques. Lee succeeds Pearl Cheng, who managed Engineering at Kilopass for the past four years.

IEEE Council on EDA Elects Officers to Two-Year Term
Cadence Fellow and Director, Cadence Laboratories, Andreas Kuehlmann will become president of the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA) January 1, 2010. Additional members of Kuehlmann’s team include Professor Donatella Sciuto from Politecnico di Milano in Italy, who will become president-elect, and William Joyner, director of Computer-Aided Design and Test at Semiconductor Research Corporation, who will become secretary. Sani Nassif, manager of the IBM Austin Research Laboratory, will serve as vice president of conferences. Professor David Atienza Alonso from the Department of Computer Architecture and Automation at Complutense University of Madrid was elected vice president of finance. Professor Rajesh Gupta from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, will remain as vice president of publications. Shishpal Rawat, director of electronic design automation (EDA) investments for Intel Corp., will continue in the role of vice president of technical activities.
Mark Lunsford Joins NXP to Lead U.S. Sales Team
Mark Lunsford has joined NXP as VP of sales and marketing for the Americas. Mark brings more than 20 years of experience in developing and leading successful sales and marketing teams. He most recently served as vice president of worldwide sales at Micrel, and prior to that held executive roles in sales and marketing at Broadcom, Pivotal Technologies and AMD.
Rapid Bridge Asks Vikas Chaudhary to Lead Global Sales
Vikas Chaudhary has joined Rapid Bridge as VP of sales. Chaudhary comes to Rapid Bridge from ARM, where he most recently served as director of worldwide sales. Chaudhary holds an MBA from Ottawa University and a Master of Science degree in Electronics and Physics from CCS University Meerut in India.
eSilicon Names Shaul Cohen as Director of Sales in Israel
eSilicon Corporation has appointed Shaul Cohen to be director of Sales in Israel. Previously, Cohen was regional manager at the Microelectronics Division of IBM Israel. He brings over 25 years of results-oriented sales and sales-management leadership. He holds a BSc. in Electrical Engineering from Tel-Aviv University.

Hynix Appoints Ji Bum Kim Chief Marketing Officer
Hynix Semiconductor Inc. has named Ji Bum Kim (“J.B. Kim”) as the new Chief Marketing Officer. J.B. Kim will be responsible for all Sales and Marketing functions at Hynix, covering DRAM, NAND Flash, and CMOS Image Sensors. J.B. Kim has spent 25 years in the semiconductor industry holding management positions in both engineering and marketing. His most recent position was Senior VP of Technical Marketing and Product Planning at Hynix.
Tony Sabetti Joins ID Team at NXP
NXP has named Anthony (Tony) Sabetti as the senior director for business development, strategy and marketing for the identification (ID) business in North America. Prior to his current position, Tony Sabetti was the vice president of RF Solutions at Sirit Inc and was responsible for several vertical markets, including the emerging supply market. Tony graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in electronic engineering. He completed an MBA in Management from Bryant College in 1991.

Maurice Carson Joins Actel Corporation as CFO
Maurice Carson has joined Actel Corporation as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Previously Mr. Carson was vice president and CFO of Kulicke & Soffa. Mr. Carson holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago.
