The MXL-M-PHY-MIPI is a high-frequency low-power, low-cost, Physical Layer IP compliant with the MIPI® Alliance Specification for M-PHY®. The IP can be used as a physical layer for many use cases. It supports DigRF v4, CSI-3, DSI-2, Uniport-M (UniPro) LLI, JC-64.1 UFS, SSIC, and M-PCIe protocols. By using efficient BURST mode operation with scalable speeds, significant power savings can be obtained. Selection of signal slew rate and amplitude allows reduction of EMI/RFI, while maintaining low bit error rates.

The Mixel M-PHY is characterized by:

  • Low pin count: all control signaling handled in-band across the interface
  • Optical friendly electrical specification (sufficient timing flexibility, DC balanced coding scheme, etc)
  • Optimized for short distance (<10) but suitable for long-distance (m)
  • Huge range of speed requirements: sub-kbps to ~6Gbps
  • Power efficient throughout adaption using burst-mode
  • Clocking: shared or non-shared reference clocks
  • Independent of foundry process
  • EMI friendly
  • Multiple transmission modes for better power efficiency
  • Multiple transmission speed ranges/rates for varied application needs and for mitigation of interference problems
  • Multiple power saving modes, where power consumption can be traded-off against recovery time
