Technologic Systems introduces the TS-TPC-7990 a new 7” Touch Panel Computer

Technologic Systems unveiled the TS-TPC-7990, its newest addition to their Touch Panel Computer (TPC) Suite. The TS-TPC-7990 is built on the NXP i.MX6 Cortex-A9 ARM CPU and has the ability to provide end-users with true, next-generation graphical experience with high-definition video, 2D, or 3D graphics. It is available in Solo or Quad Core configurations. The TS-TPC-7990 comes in either a resistive or capacitive screen making it an ideal solution for any application that requires a touch-based Human Machine Interface (HMI), such as: industrial automation, medical, automotive, self-service kiosks, and retail point-of-sale terminals.

“Since the TS-TPC-7790 is available in either resistive or capacitive touch the panel PC can truly be tailored to suit any HMI demands. It is built to be deployed in many environments and will deliver unparalleled performance and interactive solutions for your harsh-duty touch screen needs.” said Robert Miller, company Founder and President.

Get Yourself Connected

The TS-TPC-7990 is built with functionality and flexibility in mind and offers wide variety of connectors. I/O interfaces include four RS-232 ports, three RS-485 ports, two USB 2.0 ports and a USB Host Port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and 10/100 Ethernet port, two CAN bus, one I2C, one SPI and nine GPIO. For multimedia applications it also comes with audio codec with which supports built-in speakers and an AC97 compatible header for headphone and microphone expansion. The TS-TPC-7990 includes a PCIe slot which can accommodate a host of options and diverse set of I/O capacities. An on-board mSATA connection is ideal for applications requiring access to large reliable data storage.

The on-board socket capable of supporting a variety of Xbee or NimbeLink radios, provides a simple path to cellular connectivity for applications such as remote equipment monitoring and control, or various mesh network protocols for IoT applications. WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 are also available, providing built in wireless connectivity options.

Powerful Insurance

The TS-TPC-7990 is an entirely fanless system with no moving parts and is HALT verified at temperatures from -20°C to +70°C. Supporting the 7-inch TFT LCD is a rugged aluminum frame, making it an ideal solution for mounting on wall, cabinet or point of sale signage. The unit may be powered by a standard DC power supply with flexible input range of 5V DC or 8 to 28 VDC or else it can be powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE) with daughter card. Applications with strict low power requirements will appreciate the work that’s been done to reduce power consumption to less than 8 watts in typical conditions and down to 6 mW in sleep mode. Wake from sleep mode can be configured to either a timer or wake on touch settings to support a variety of end applications.

The TS-TPC-7990 also supports a TS-SILO technology daughter card which will provide up to 60 seconds of reserve power in the event of a power failure. This precious extra time gives the board time to gracefully power down and ensures file system integrity. A battery-backed real time clock (RTC) keeps accurate time and a watchdog timer is available to help if a system becomes unresponsive in the field.

Comes out Swinging

Capable of booting to a shell prompt in under 6 seconds, the TS-TPC-7990 can boot from the onboard eMMC Flash or a microSD card to Linux, Debain or Android operating systems via U-Boot bootloader for out of the box functionality. For the onboard eMMC flash, a choice between high reliability SLC or high capacity MLC configurations are available. This device comes standard with Debian Jessie running the 4.1.15 kernel. We also have Yocto 2.2.2 Morty with kernel 4.1.15 available to take full advantage of the i.MX6 CPU 3D graphics acceleration capabilities.

All Technologic Systems products ship with substantial documentation and other developer-friendly support. Customers have access to online guides, schematics, source code, toolchain, and binaries. There are several Linux distros available, each with a full board support package and the associated source code. And all purchases are backed with exceptional software and hardware support, a standard 1-year warranty, and 10+ year lifecycle guarantee.
