Ramona, CA-February 12th, 2007 – Meeting the needs of image processing developers and OEMs for an imaging processing capable camera with high speed, low cost image acquisition, Apollo Imaging Technologies announces the AIT Cronus Intelligent Vision System offering image capture at frame rates up to 5000 frames per second. The Cronus, based on the Texas Instruments TMS320DM642 DSP-based digital media processor, is a fully featured, IP-enabled, VGA smart camera suitable for OEM production, reference designs, or image processing development platforms using the full suite of TI tools and third party products.
The Cronus is a self-contained high-speed camera capable of capturing over three seconds of video at 250 fps for VGA resolution, or 1000 fps at QVGA. Frame rates up to 5000 fps are available at reduced resolution as is much longer recording time using lower frame rates and lower resolution settings. Camera control (shutter speed, brightness and contrast, frame rate, resolution, color balance, trigger setting, etc.) is via Apollo supplied software running on any Windows XP PC. No hardware is required in the PC. The Cronus features a hardware Trigger input that accepts a positive or negative TTL pulse or contact closure, and a TTL or open collector Strobe output. The Trigger can also be fired using the remote software, acoustically, or based on the image and the pre-trigger storage can be configured from zero to 100 percent of the total buffer space. An optional feature allows multiple cameras to be connected and synchronized. An NTSC/PAL output is featured for set-up and monitoring.

Apollo Imaging Technologies developed the Cronus as a self-contained image processing system for security, biometric and industrial vision applications requiring intelligence in the camera. The Cronus features either a color or monochrome CMOS VGA sensor, a 720Mhz DM642, 256MB DRAM, 32MB flash, 10/100 Ethernet, RS232, battery backed real-time clock, available IEEE802.3af compliant Power Over Ethernet, audio in/out and general purpose I/O. Subset configurations or custom designs are available, based on quantity.
