Blackhawk™ Begins Shipping New and Affordable XDS510 USB JTAG Emulator for TI DSPs Priced at $995

Mount Laurel, N.J. , Blackhawk™, a leading maker of digital signal processor (DSP) hardware and software development tools, is shipping a new, cost-effective XDS510-class USB Emulator priced below one thousand dollars for use with Texas Instruments Incorporated’s (TI) DSPs and Code Composer Studio™ (CCStudio) Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The USB510L is compatible with a wide array of TI DSPs for applications including high-definition (HD) digital video, audio, biometrics, automotive, motor control, wireless and medical devices.

The moderately priced emulator (USB510L) is built around the proven technology of the widely-used USB510, and earlier Blackhawk models. Blackhawk has extensive experience with TI JTAG Emulation gained since introducing the first USB Emulator for TI DSPs in 2001. Blackhawk JTAG Emulators cover the full-spectrum of emulation needs from a low-cost C2000™ digital signal controller (DSC) all the way up to the XDS560 Trace System.

Features of the USB510L Emulator include, but are not limited to a Plug n’ Play USB host interface, 3.3/5.0v device support, bi-color status LED. Connection to the target board is via a standard 14-pin 2×7 header which is compatible with most TI and third party development platforms. Blackhawk will provide drivers with the USB510L for TI’s CCStudio IDE version 3.3. Driver updates for all Blackhawk products are provided free-of-charge from the company’s website.

Portability is a strong feature of the USB510L due to the very compact pod and because no external power is required except for a USB connection. This makes the new emulator very well suited for travel and use with notebook computers. Many of the older and less-sophisticated parallel port and PCMCIA emulators cannot be used on modern laptops and an easy and cost-effective replacement is now within reach.

“Blackhawk consistently delivers high-quality solutions that enable customers to easily take advantage of the flexibility and performance of TI DSPs,” said Lori Vidra, worldwide eXpressDSP development tool marketing manager, TI. “Developers will be able to leverage the USB510L emulator across a range of TI processors, providing them with an easy-to-use tool at a cost efficient price.”
