New Blackhawk System Trace Pin Converter Supports Legacy TI JTAG Emulators

Blackhawk™, a leader in the design of digital signal processor (DSP) hardware and software development tools, today announced the availability of a new MIPI pin converter that allows legacy JTAG emulators to connect to the new 60-pin system trace (STM) debug header for Texas Instruments devices.

The new pin converter allows hardware designers to include the latest 60-pin MIPI connection on their target boards without worrying about compatibility with legacy TI JTAG emulators.  Software developers will be able to advantage of the latest debug features provided by STM while continuing to use existing tools for basic debug tasks.

The target side of the pin converter, a 60-pin MIPI system trace connection, uses a raised version of the SAMTEC QTH series high-speed connector.  Using a lead style with increased height was intentional to permit use of the converter where a JTAG connection is surrounded by other components.  The additional clearance will make the converter compatible with more target board designs.

Designed to support JTAG emulation probes with a 14-pin TI or 20-pin compact TI target connection, the converter will cover the majority of TI emulators being used today.
