Screaming circuits finds silver lining in economic downturn

The economic downturn has had an upside for some industry segments. PCB prototyping service Screaming Circuits has seen business climb steadily since it’s founding in 2003 as more companies have cut back staff and resources, stretching engineering staffs beyond their own capabilities. Screaming Circuits recently formed a relationship with Newark/element14 to offer their services to the element14 community. In this interview with Duane Benson, director of marketing and sales, Benson elaborates on the growing prototyping market in the PCB industry as well as the challenges and needs of their customer base.

Multi-Channel DDC Transceiver

The multi-channel transceiver system performs Digital Down Conversion (DDC) on four channels of 10 MHz and one channel of 50 MHz bandwidth signal carried on 160 MHz IF. One of the recorded five channels is playbacked on the DAC through the digital up converter (DUC). All channels are synchronous to each other by using the same sampling clock and trigger from X3- Timing board. The DDC/DUC channels are implemented on Innovative Integration X5-210M and X5-400M cards and integrated with the high speed Andale data logger. Custom logic is created in the Virtex5 SX95T for the signal processing and data flow controls. Each channel has independent software defined tuner, programmable filters, gain control, and monitoring functions.
