New XMC Modules with Configurable Kintex®-7 FPGA plus High-Speed Serial I/O with Gigabit Ethernet or AXM I/O Interfaces

The new XMC-7K modules are designed for applications requiring high-bandwidths data processing to prevent bottlenecks.

Wixom, MI: Acromag’s new family of XMC-7K FPGA modules features two versions for a choice of either high-speed serial I/O or AXM I/O. The XMC-7K SERIAL and XMC-7K AXM harness the power of configurable Kintex®-7 FPGA with 325k or 410k logic cells plus rear high-speed serial bus interface I/O. The XMC-7K SERIAL provides front I/O with dual SFP+ ports for Fibre Channel or 10 Gigabit Ethernet and a VHDCR connector. The XMC-7K AXM provides 8-lane high-speed serial interface on rear P16 connector customer installed soft cores plus additional I/O processing support via a separate AXM mezzanine card. Standard Gigabit Ethernet, SRIO, and Aurora protocols allow IP cores to be developed and supported long term. These modules are ideal for high-performance customized embedded systems for Aerospace and COTS applications that require a powerful and flexible I/O processor module that is capable of excuting custom instruction sets and algorithms. These modules excel for radar signal processing, Gigabit Ethernet video, high-end fabric interface, and low-power FPGA. All models are designed and manufactured lead-free in the USA starting at $4,800.

“With Acromag’s Kintex®-7 FPGA modules, you can greatly increase DSP algorithm performance for faster throughput using multiple channels and parallel hardware architectures. You free up CPU cycles by offloading algorithmic-intensive tasks to the FPGA co-processor,” commented Joseph Primeau, Acromag’s embedded sales and marketing director.

For easy integration of the boards with embedded Windows® applications, Acromag developed a DLL driver software package for compatibility with Microsoft® Visual C++™, and Visual Basic. Sample files with “C” source demonstration programs provide easy-to-use tools to test operation of the module.

For connectivity with real time application programs, Acromag offers C libraries for VxWorks® and other operating systems. The libraries provide generic routines (source code included) to handle reads, writes, interrupts, and other functions. Demonstration programs enable the developer to quickly exercise the I/O modules before attaching the routines to the application program. This diagnostic tool can save hours of troubleshooting and debugging. Free Linux example programs are also available.
