Carrier board design support for nanoETXexpress COMs

Embedded applications are not always easy to design. Not only is the appropriate technology needed, but so are appropriate partners. The Embedded Computing Technology market has seen and influx of modular solutions designed around the Intel® Atom™ processor Z5xx series and the companion Intel® US15W System Controller Hub. Modules are great and so are the vendors who offer them, but what about help for designing the application- specific carrier boards needed to go with them?

Earlier this summer, Diamond Point International, b-plus, ACCES I/O and Microteam all announced their support for the nanoETXexpress computer-on-module form factor, citing the numerous breakthroughs that the new COM module makes possible as well as the security of the investment. The nano- ETXexpress is compatible to the COM Express™ COM.0 type 1 connector. Thus, previous design knowledge is leveraged and products can be brought to market quickly, not to mention the scalability achieved.

Diamond Point International (DPIE) has several “nanoETXexpressready” products in the pipeline including a nanoETXexpress-variant of the popular RD-103 series of industrial computers, while b-plus and ACCES I/O have integrated the nanoETXexpress computeron- modules into their baseboard product line plans as well. b-plus developed an extremely compact, yet full-featured carrier board for the nanoETXexpress form factor, designed for evaluation purposes, small quantity applications and as a reference design for custom carrier boards. ACCES I/O will be using it to provide custom carrier boards and further plans to add to its COTS line of small embedded carrier boards utilizing the nanoETXexpress computer-on-module specification.

Not only will designers be able to turn to Kontron for support when they choose to build their application around the new nanoETXexpress- SP computer-on-module, but they also have the resource of established and experienced carrier board designers at their side to help them bring their application to life.
