Two New AdvancedTCA Blades from Emerson Network Power Feature Latest Intel® Xeon® Processors

Tempe, Ariz. [March 16, 2010] – Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity™, today launched two new high-performance AdvancedTCA® (ATCA®) server blades powered by the latest Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series – announced by Intel today.

The dual-processor ATCA-7365 is Emerson Network Power’s highest-performance 10Gbps ATCA server blade to date, while the single-processor ATCA-7367 features an AMC site to balance performance with on-board storage, flexible I/O or other functionality. Both blades offer one of the highest memory capacities of comparable ATCA blades available today, which is critical to optimize application performance. The ATCA-7365 supports up to 96GB DDR3 memory (80GB for NEBS variant), while the ATCA-7367 supports up to 48GB DDR3 memory.

Designed to enable network and service providers to lower their CapEx and OpEx, the off-the-shelf ATCA-7365 and ATCA-7367 blades support a broad array of communications applications that require high network throughput, such as control and  gateway functions and telecom, application and media servers in LTE, WiMAX and IMS networks. Both blades are available in variants designed to comply with NEBS and ETSI specifications or variants designed to help improve the price/performance ratio of commercial functions in network data centers and server-class environments beyond telecommunications, such as network-centric military, aerospace, scientific experimentation and other data processing applications.

“Our ATCA-7365 and ATCA-7367 blades offer massive main memory capacity, multiple network and storage I/O connectivity and even more flexible storage options,” said Rob Pettigrew, director of marketing, Embedded Computing, Emerson Network Power. “With the integration of the latest generation of Intel® Xeon® processor technology, our customers can now benefit from enhanced security, optimized networking and thermal performance without being locked-in to a single system vendor.”

“The six-core Intel® Xeon® processors E5645 and L5638 use next-generation 32 nanometer manufacturing process technology to provide customers with significant increases in performance and energy efficiency.” said Frank Schapfel, director of marketing, Intel Performance Products Division. “They also include Intel® AES New Instructions for increased encryption performance; Intel® QuickPath Interconnect and integrated memory interfaces for increased throughputs; and upgraded Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology for enhanced dynamic frequency scaling. In addition to offering virtualization, energy efficiency and performance, the processors are compatible with previous-generation sockets, providing the added benefit of scalability between processor generations.”

Both the ATCA-7365 and ATCA-7367 are available with a variety of rear transition module (RTM) variants to support different I/O configurations. With comparable configurations to previous-generation blades, the RTMs provide hot-swappable hard disk capability for a flexible choice of storage options including enterprise-class disks, SATA disks with extended temperature ranges and solid state disks. The blades also support RAID 0/1 for externally connected disk drives. A pair of blades with RTMs can be configured for applications relying on highly available server and mass storage functionality.

Both blades can be configured with a variety of software offerings, from firmware-only to fully integrated and verified software operating environments, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4, Wind River PNE LE 3.0 and Microsoft® Windows® Server 2008. They also comprehensively support virtualization (under RHEL 5.4, XEN/KVM) and VMware ESX/ESXi certification is planned.

Early access ATCA-7365 and ATCA-7367 blades are shipping now. To learn more about open standards-based embedded computing solutions from Emerson Network Power, visit www.EmersonNetworkPower.com/EmbeddedComputing.
