ECA Order Index Takes Upturn in August
ARLINGTON, Va. –(Business Wire)– Sep 15, 2009 Worldwide electronic component orders took a slight upturn in August, while the 12-month average remained flat, according to the monthly index compiled by the Electronic Components Association (ECA). The monthly report from ECA is derived from order information collected in confidence from leading electronic component manufacturers.
Although welcomed by the industry, the upturn does not necessarily signal a rebound for the market, according to Bob Willis, ECA president.
“I don’t think we can make any assumptions that this is the start of a comeback,” says Willis. “It’s more about manufacturers replenishing depleted inventories as demand for items such as PCs and cell phones caused some shortages. We’ll need to watch over the next few months to see if positive trends are developing.”
