The CBP58 is a no-battery OEM backup module that uses supercapacitors rather than conventional batteries. The advantage of supercapacitors is that they charge very quickly and can be recharged a large number of times – 500,000 cycles compared to several hundred for batteries. This is beneficial for applications that have a very large number of battery discharge cycles or where a “maintenance free” solution is required such as remote terminals, mobile data collectors, or wherever changing spent batteries is not convenient.

The CBP58 total capacitance is 58.33 Farads with a maximum voltage of 15V and maximum energy storage of 5133 Joules at a cutoff voltage of 7.0V. This allows the CBP58 to power a hypothetical 5W load for 17.11 minutes or a 20W load for 4.28 minutes. When combined with a Tri-M Engineering Smart Charge series of power supply like the HESC104, HESC-SER, or HPSC104-SER, the result is a “no Battery” uninterrupted power supply (UPS) complete with 4A charger and power management features capable of supplying short term power to a system for a set period of time until a proper shutdown is completed and/or main power is restored.

The CBP58 is a PC/104 footprint (3.55” x 3.775”) capable of being integrated into a PC/104 stack. Its operating temperature of -40° to +65°C and storage temperature of -40° to +70°C offers a far greater range over conventional batteries makes the CBP58 an ideal solution for robust and rugged systems.
