PIC24 “GB2/GB4” MCU Families with eXtreme Low Power, Crypto Engine and Segmented LCD Driver

This family features an integrated hardware crypto module supporting AES/DES/3DES encryption/decryption, eXtreme Low Power (XLP), as well as 256 KB Flash, 16 KB RAM, USB OTG, LCD controller and other advanced peripherals. It also includes dual-partition Flash with Live Update capability. This combination of features makes the part ideally suited for low power embedded security applications such as security cameras, security door lock/panels, point-of-sale terminals and voting machines.

  • Cryptographic Engine that performs NIST standard encryption/decryption operations (AES/DES/3DES) without CPU intervention thereby reducing software overhead, and freeing up CPU bandwidth and memory
  • Supports secure applications with programmatically secure OTP array for key storage, true random number generation and battery-backed RAM key storage
  • Dual-partition Flash with Live Update capability permits simultaneous programming of one memory partition while executing application code from the other, important for in-the-field firmware updates
  • Extreme Low Power features multiple power management options such as Sleep and Idle modes that selectively shut down peripherals and/or core for substantial power reduction and fast wake-up
  • The versatile on-chip segmented LCD Controller includes many features that make the integration of displays in low-power applications easier such as, an integrated voltage regulator with charge pump and an integrated internal resistor ladder that allows contrast control in software

  • Products in this family range from 28-44 pins for PIC24 “GB2” family and 64-121 pins for PIC24 “GB4” family variants and from 64 KB up to 256 KB of program Flash
  • Has an On-The-Go (OTG) USB Serial Interface Engine (SIE) capability of allowing the device to act as either a USB peripheral or as a USB embedded host dynamically switching from one to the other
  • eXtreme low power current consumption with Deep Sleep current of 60 nA typical and 160 μA/MHz in Run mode
  • 10/12-bit, up to 24-Channel ADC with a conversion rate of 500 ksps (10-bit)/ 200 kbps (12-bit) and one 10-bit DAC with 1 Msps update rate
  • Supported by the Explorer 16 Development Board and PIC24F processor Plug-In Modules (PIMs)

  • The PIC24FJ128GA/GB202 (128 KB Flash) and PIC24FJ64GA/GB202 (64 KB Flash) are available in 28-pin SOIC, SSOP, QFN, SPDIP packages
  • The PIC24FJ256GA/GB412 (256 KB Flash), PIC24FJ128GA/GB412 (128 KB Flash), and PIC24FJ64GA/GB412 (64 KB Flash) are available in a 121-pin BGA package
  • The PIC24FJ256GA/GB410 (256 KB Flash), PIC24FJ128GA/GB410 (128 KB Flash), and PIC24FJ64GA/GB410 (64 KB Flash) are available in a 100-pin TQFP
