SafeFAT is a high-performance, failsafe FAT12/16/32 file system for embedded applications. Safe-FAT is a journaling system. It guarantees that all operations will be carried out in a failsafe manner. If the system resets unexpectedly for any reason, it returns in a coherent, consistent and usable state.

SafeFAT is often used with FAT-formatted devices such as SD cards, MMC cards, Compact Flash cards and thumb drives. When combined with HCC’s Flash Translation Layer (FTL), it can be used with high-speed, high-capacity flash memories that have not been previously formatted.

The extreme versatility and reliability of SafeFAT and FTL are available for use with any RTOS or without an RTOS.

SafeFAT and FTL can be used independently or in combination. SafeFAT, without FTL, protects against file corruption due to power failures and other interrupts. FTL enables the use of high-speed, high-capacity flash memories that have not been previously formatted. It provides sophisticated wear leveling and bad block management, as well as protection against file corruption due to power failures and other interruptions. SafeFAT and FTL, together or separately, provide a high degree of reliability for any embedded application.
