Portwell’s Intel® Atom™ Processor Based Embedded Solutions for Military

Portwell offers a great portfolio of low power and small form factor embedded boards that support the Intel® Atom™ processors. Portwell’s PEB-2738, utilizing the Intel ECX form factor, is based on the Intel Atom processor Z510/Z530 and Intel System Controller Hub (SCH) US15W, including industrial temperature range. The NANO-8044 is the first Nano-ITX board based on the Intel Atom processor Z5xx series. At a mere 120mm x 120mm, the compact NANO-8044 measures only 50 percent of the Mini-ITX. Portwell’s PEB-2738 and NANO-8044 are specifically designed to operate at very low power (less than 10 watts at full loading). Both PEB- 2738 and NANO-8044 support one SO-DIMM for DDR2 SDRAM up to 2GB and come with one IDE, one Type II CompactFlash® socket, and one SD card (NANO-8044). Other features include dual display, Gigabit Ethernet (NANO-8044), audio, USB, one PCIe x1 expansion slot and PCIe x1 golden finger (PEB-2738).

At a space-saving 70mm x 70mm, 30 percent smaller than the COM Express form factor, Portwell’s Qseven modules are the smallest Intel Atom-based boards. Portwell’s PQ7-M100G module features Intel Atom processor Z5xx series and supports dual display. The PQ7-C200, based on Mini-ITX form factor, serves as a carrier board to the PQ7-M100G and includes all the necessary connectors. Portwell also offers PQ7- M102XL module based on the Intel Atom processor Z5xx series, including industrial temperature range, and PQ7-C100XL, a 3.5” form factor carrier board to the PQ7-M102XL.

Rugged VME and CompactPCI hardware platform controls multiple unmanned aircraft

During March 2007 a series of QinetiQ research activities culminated with a Royal Air Force (RAF) pilot successfully controlling multiple unmanned aircraft from the cockpit of a Tornado military jet.
