Nine Linear ReDriver/Repeaters Cover Range of High-speed Protocols



Providing link training compliance for high-speed protocols of Display Port 1.3 6-Gbit/s, PCI Express 8-Gbit/s (PCIe 3), HDMI 2.0 8-Gbit/s, Ethernet 10-Gbit/s, USB 3.1/Thunderbolt 10-Gbit, and SAS3 12-Gbit/s a series of linear redriver, or repeater ICs, has been announced by Pericom.

According to the company, the family provides cost-effective and protocol-compliant solutions to extend high speed channels on a platform with minimum adjustment time.

They enable special ‘link training’ signals to pass though a device without change in order for the platform to meet signal compliance testing required for platforms using, for example, PCIe3 (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express), 10GbE (Gigabit Ethernet), or SAS3 (Serial Attached SCSCI or Small Computer System Interface). The new devices are enhanced with an easier adjustment for the redriver settings and a wider range of channel lengths any setting.

The devices provide programmable input equalization, linear swing and flat gain control to optimize high speed signals across the PCB trace or cable. The series includes the PI3EQX8904/ PI3EQX8908A, PCIe 3.0-compliant, 8-Gbit/s link speed, four-channel (8904) and eight-channel (8908A); the PI3EQX10904/ PI3EQX10908A 10GbE / KR-compliant, 10-Gbit/s link speed, four-channel (10904) and eight-channel (10908A) linear redrivers with link training-compliant performance. Each has I2C master/slave mode controlling up to 16 redrivers from a single, low cost EEPROM. Other features are per channel adjustments, flow through pinouts, and small TQFN packages.

There is also the PI3DPX1203, a DisplayPort 1.3-compliant, 8-Gbit/s link speed, four differential channels linear redriver, with link training transparent mode. The linear mode amplifier allows full compliance to link training signals. This version is suitable for USB Type-C connector sink and source-side applications with power device controllers.

Two other linear redrivers/repeaters are the PI3EQX1001/ PI3EQX1002B. These low power, high performance, single- (1001) and dual-channel (1002B) devices extend both USB3.1 Gen1 (5-Gbit/s) and USB3.1 Gen2 (10-Gbit/s) high speed signals across PCB channels and cable applications, with or without Type-C connectors.

Finally, the PI3EQX1204-C is a SAS 3.0-compliant, 12-Gbit/s link speed, while the PI3HDX1204Dis an HDMI 2.0-compliant, 6-Gbit/s link speed, four differential channel linear redrivers with link training transparent mode.

Application areas are server, storage, networking, PCs and notebooks, and some embedded applications with protocol speeds of 8Gbit/s and higher.

All members have simulation models, support, and evaluation boards for development support.

The PI3DPX1203, PI3EQX8904/ PI3EQX8908A, PI3EQX10904/ PI3EQX10908A, PI3EQX1204-C, and PI3HDX1204D are available in production quantities and the PI3EQX1001/ PI3EQX1002B are sampling now, with production quantities due in Q1 2016.
