Hypervisors Thrive with Power Architecture

The use of multicore processors is on the rise, and hardware virtualization technology provides a complementary and game-changing approach to maximize the utility of that extra silicon horsepower. Power Architecture has included hardware virtualization support since 2001 in its server-based ISA. However, with the advent of Power Architecture ISA 2.06, hardware virtualization is now being promulgated into general purpose embedded processors. This paper discusses the hardware and software capabilities behind embedded virtualization for Power Architecture-based systems.[Power.org]
