LynxOS®-178 RTOS is the first hard real-time operating system certifiable to DO-178B level A with the interoperability benefits of POSIX® and support for the ARINC 653 APplication EXecutive (APEX).

LynxOS-178 is also the first and only RTOS to be awarded the FAA-accepted Reusable Software Component (RSC). The RSC acceptance letter allows previously developed software and certification artifacts to be reused on subsequent programs, thereby reducing cost, schedule and risk for developers of safety-critical systems.

LynxOS-178 is based on open standards and is designed specifically to fulfill the stringent needs of multithread and multiprocess applications in safetycritical real-time systems.

LynxOS-178 enforces Virtual Machine (VM) brick-wall partitions which guarantee that application software in one VM cannot interfere with application software in any other VM. Consequently, the VM’s allow software developed to different levels of DO-178B design assurance to be mixed on the same platform; again reducing cost, schedule and risk.
