USB Support: USB 2.0

The USB-RS232, USB-RS485 and USB-RS422 cables and related PCBs are USB to RSXXX level converter devices incorporating FTDI’s FT232RQ USB to serial UART interface IC device. These products handle all the USB signaling and protocols providing a fast and simple interconnect method.

Each cable contains a small electronic circuit board, utilising the FT232R, which is encapsulated into the USB connector end of the cable. The integrated electronics also include an RSXXX level shifter plus Tx and Rx LEDs giving a visual indication of UART traffic.

The other end of the cable is bare, tinned wire ended (WE) connections by default, but can be customised using different connectors to support various applications.

PCBs only are available if complete cable not required.

Cables and PCBs are FCC, CE, RoHS compliant.

Both the cables and PCBs are USB powered and USB 2.0 full speed compatible. Each cable is 1.8m long and the RS485 and RS422 support a data transfer rate up to 3 Mbaud. The RS232 cable and PCB support a data transfer rate up to 1 Mbaud.

Both cables and PCBs support the FTDIChip-ID™, with a unique USB serial number programmed into the FT232R. This feature can be used to create a security or password protected file transfer access using either.

The USB-RSXXX cables and PCBs require USB drivers, available free from http://www.ftdichip.com, which are used to make the FT232R in the cable appear as a virtual COM port (VCP).
