USB Support: USB 1.0 and 2.0

The Vinculum VNC1L is the first of FTDI’s Vinculum family of Embedded USB Host Controller integrated circuit devices. Not only is it able to handle the USB Host Interface, and data transfer functions, but owing to the inbuilt MCU and embedded Flash memory, VNC1L can encapsulate the USB device classes as well. When interfacing to mass storage devices such as USB Flash drives, VNC1L also transparently handles the FAT File structure communicating via UART, SPI or parallel FIFO interfaces via a simple to implement command set.

There are 6 standard firmware versions to support various USB device classes available for the VNC1L which FTDI provides for free:

VDAP = General purpose USB host on both ports
VDIF = Similar to VDAP, but USB port 1 can become the monitor port
VDPS = One host port and one slave port
VMUSIC = Special firmware dedicated to VMUSIC module
VF2F = Special firmware for VF2F module.
VCDC = Communication class device.
VDFC = Disk and file copier.
BOMS = Bulk Only Mass Storage e.g. memory stick FTDI PERIPHERAL e.g. FT232, FT245, FT2232
HID = Human Interface Device e.g. mouse, keyboard
CDC = Communication Device Class e.g. modems, phones.

BOMs firmware supports FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32 file systems with a simple file oriented command set. VNC1L is available in Pb-free (RoHS compliant) compact 48-Lead LQFP package.
