Total Phase offers the USB Power Delivery Analyzer for implementing USB Type-C and Power Delivery into latest generation products. The USB Power Delivery Analyzer is a small adapter for recording Power Delivery (PD) protocol traffic on the USB Type-C connector. It connects in-line between two Type-C products, and passively captures all communication on the CC1 and CC2 pins. While connected, it does not disturb any USB 3.2, USB 3.1 Gen 2 or USB 2.0 signals, enabling capture of PD negotiation for power, USB data roles, DisplayPort, and/or other Type-C Alternate Modes.

The USB PD analyzer works with the award-winning Data Center Software for capture and visualization of current and voltage measurements. Current and voltage for VBUS and VCONN and independent measurement of voltage on CC1 and CC2 are correlated to captured PD protocol data, enabling developers to clearly identify PD protocol events and their impact on power in the system. Support for Power Delivery 3.0: extended messages, handling of new messages, and DisplayPort VDM decoding is included. With full cross platform operation, running on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, the Data Center Software offers true real-time display and decoding of captured data to provide virtually unlimited traces.

Originally designed by Google (code name “Twinkie”), the USB Power Delivery Analyzer was prepared for the market by Total Phase. With new upgraded firmware, a new user interface, and improved manufacturing, the Total Phase USB Power Delivery Analyzer goes beyond the original Twinkie design, offering enhanced features and improved reliability. Total Phase’s USB Power Delivery Analyzer monitors USB Type-C Power Delivery (PD) traffic while acting as a pass through for USB 3.2 data. It simultaneously records traffic on CC1 or CC2 while capturing voltage and current measurements on VBUS, VCONN, CC1, and CC2.
