Elma Electronic Offers Widest Range of VITAbased Backplanes and Enclosures
Elma VME/64X systems feature a modular design and rugged, high-quality construction. These chassis are available in 19” rackmount, desktop or portable tower versions, with 7 different types available, each designed to meet the needs of specific applications. 1U – 15U heights are available with depths from 15” to 24”. Vertical or horizontal card cages accommodate 3U, 6U or 9U boards with depths from 160-400mm depths. All systems come fully assembled, wired and tested prior to shipment.
VXS & VPX Systems
The Elma VXS chassis are available in 19” rackmount or portable towers and are designed to meet VITA 41 VXS specifications. Configurations are offered for both horizontal and vertical mounting of 6U x 160mm cards. Backplanes are available in 5, 8, 10, 12, 18 or 20 slots in Single Star, Dual Star, Mesh, and Hybrid versions. The VXS Switched Serial standard is fully backwards-compatible to VME/VME64x. VXS utilizes a 6.4 Gbps high-speed connector across the P0 section of a VME64x backplane. The connector allows the use of switched fabric signals for higher bandwidth and reliability.
Elma has the widest selection of VPX backplanes and chassis in the market. The Elma VPX Development Chassis has an open frame for easy prototyping and testing. Designed to VITA 46/48 specifications, the chassis features a high-performance 5-slot Mesh backplane. Elma also offers VPX backplanes in 3U and 6U formats in various configurations, including hybrid versions with legacy VME64x slots. The VPX backplanes are currently utilized in Elma’s convection, conduction, and liquid cooled system platforms, with special configurations for higher power and increased cooling capacity.
Rugged COTS Systems
The COTS 12R2 is a high quality and cost-efficient rugged package for all VME/VME64x, VXS, VPX and cPCI applications. The rugged product line includes 5U-14U models for both 6U and 9U cards. The 12R2 uses honeycomb filters, braided gasketing, and metal impregnated gasket sheets to seal off every external seam to ensure compliance to MIL-STD-461D. To verify that the chassis will more than meet shock and vibration requirements, the 12R2 has been tested for shock, vibration, and structural integrity per MIL-STD-810F, MIL-STD-167 and MIL-STD-901D. The 12R2 integrates standard off-the-shelf parts including aluminum flat frames and covers, ruggedized side plates, crossfunctional extruded profiles, standard electrical components and wire harnesses to reduce lead time. The 12R2 features MIL-grade components, system monitoring LEDs, a powerful, efficient cooling system and holds up to 20 boards.
ATR (Air Transport Rack)
The Elma ATR for COTS is available with conduction or convection cooling in sizes 1/2, 3/4, 1, or 1 1/2 ATR per ARINC 404A. Liquid-cooled versions in the size 1 ATR are also available. Bus formats include VME, VME64X, VXS, VPX, cPCI and Custom, all built with a modular design to ensure easy customization with minimum cost and lead time. There are 2 chassis depths available with capacity for 5, 7, 12 or 15 slots, 6U x 160mm. The ATR features advanced airflow distribution, removable front panels, rear panels, and top and bottom covers. Designed to meet MIL-STD’s 5400, 810F, 461E, 704A, 275A, the Elma ATR family is ideal for use with commercially available cards in airborne, ground mobile or shipboard applications.
