SIE Computing Solutions Introduces VITA 58 Line Replaceable Unit Chassis

New 734 Series Supports In-Field Level 2 and 2-plus Maintenance in Aircraft, UAVs, and Other Vehicles

Brockton, MA – May 3, 2011 – SIE Computing Solutions, Inc., a provider of rugged electronic systems for mission-critical and performance-critical embedded computing platforms deployed in harsh environments, today unveiled its new series of VITA 58 Line Replaceable Units (LRU). This new product line launches SIE’s 734 Series chassis, which meets the level 2 and 2- plus maintenance requirements specified in the VITA 58 standard.

Ranging in size from V58/1H1 to V58/8H2, many of the VITA 58 enclosures are backward compatible with the ARINC600 specification, and all utilize a rear-mount blind mating connector system that allows for plug-and-play deployment on the battlefield, in the flight line, or on the shipboard. A front panel indicator light also enables in-field techs to rapidly identify problems and then remove and replace the LRU upon failure, so systems are always mission-ready in minutes, even without specialized expertise on-site. And because all sensitive components are contained within the chassis’s protective ESD shell, further damage of the failed enclosure is avoided during the service and transport stages of the repair process.

The SIE VITA 58 chassis can be integrated with any electronic component set from PC104 to OpenVPX and allows for convection, conduction and liquid cooling options for maximum flexibility depending on environmental performance requirements for land, air, sea, or space applications. The 734 Series’ engineered durability is specifically designed for total portability of the embedded electronic systems deployed in the variety of rugged environments that characterize the in-field, mission-critical military communications networks of bases, aircraft, infantry transportation, and more.

“SIE recognizes the power of Line Replaceable Units and their growing value to defense OEMs for military applications,” said Chris Boutilier, president of SIE Computing Solutions. “The development of the new 734 Series chassis provides us with an opportunity to leverage our 40 years of experience in the development of rugged electronic systems for mission-critical computing platforms. The VITA 58 chassis standard, based on the principles of total interoperability and in-field interchangeability, has the potential to significantly improve aerospace and defense applications with reduced time and costs to deploy troops and equipment.”

The 734 Series LRU chassis is available now, with standard one-year limited warranty. An extended warranty is also available.
