Windows® CE Inside—BSQUARE Makes Windows CE Easy

Concierge is based on the RMI Au1250 Applications Processor running the Windows CE operating system–ideal for this application based on its small footprint and real-time response capabilities. It also offers Wi- Fi, touchscreen display, and GPS driver support as well as a configurable power management architecture. Additionally, CE supports third-party applications like Adobe Flash Lite 3 which was used to create the most compelling feature of the device – its intuitive user interface. Unlike other open source operating systems, CE enables Springboard to accurately predict ongoing OS licensing and support costs.

Windows® XPe Inside—Available from BSQUARE through 2016

Through BSQUARE’s XP Embedded Jumpstart service, Outdoor Central was able to develop a Windows XP Embedded OS image for their x86 iPOS architecture. This embedded OS gave them the ability to standardize on a single OS because of its ability to run existing Windows desktop applications and drivers. XP Embedded also supported extensive networking capabilities for the required backend connectivity as well as Enhanced Write Filter (EWF), a feature that enabled Outdoor Central to protect the gold image on the hard drive.

The End Result

With BSQUARE, Outdoor Central got their embedded solution to market quickly and benefited from the best-possible software licensing costs. And, XP Pro is available in the embedded channel through BSQUARE until 2016.
