Gemalto has worked with Microsoft to integrate its smart card-based strong authentication solution with Microsoft platforms, operating systems and products. Gemalto smart card technology is the first implementation of the .NET Framework that achieves an unparalleled level of integration within the Microsoft product ecosystem.

The Gemalto .NET solution includes several end-user devices that support unconnected and connected (via USB) modes of operation as well as PIN and/or biometric user validation. The same devices can be used for onetime password authentication and for PKI applications. Because these devices work seamlessly with Microsoft Windows and smart card login, strong authentication and PKI systems can easily be deployed and managed without additional software or middleware. Gemalto also offers Device Administration Service, a hosted service for issuing and supporting Gemalto .NET end-user devices.

Gemalto .NET devices run a streamlined version of the .NET Framework to provide full cryptographic capabilities and support for on-card applications and services seamlessly within the Windows® environment. By extending the Microsoft .NET programming model to the smart card, this solution offers a rich feature set including managed memory, strong security, and language independence. These features can be leveraged to deploy:

  • Strong Authentication using one-time passwords or PKI certificates
  • Windows Logon
  • Secure VPN and Web Access
  • Document, file and email encryption
  • Digital Signatures (Microsoft Word, Excel documents and Outlook email)

FEATURES & BENEFITS

  • Enhances security for logon, remote access, and sensitive information. Identity credentials stored on the smart card device are more portable and safer than those stored on a PC
  • Offers favorable and rapid ROI due to interoperability with existing Microsoft infrastructure, reduced password support costs, and risk reduction
  • Optimizes IT resource utilization with integrated identity management services, reduced password support requirements, and streamlined integration
  • Increases employee productivity with fast secure access and services such as digital signature and single sign-on to workstations and applications
  • Creates an efficient and streamlined process for regulatory compliance

TECHNICAL SPECS

  • Applications communicating with the smart card device are independent of the communications transport being used.
  • Development using Visual Studio® .NET enables use of Microsoft’s Web Services Enhancements (WSE) allowing easy smart card integration into solutions based on web services.
  • Host and smart card applications interact transparently using secure communication channels, allowing multiple card applications to be “active” at the same time without explicit application selection.
  • Host and smart card applications interact transparently using secure communication channels, allowing multiple card applications to be “active” at the same time without explicit application selection.
  • Secure and reliable cryptographic operations, including both symmetric (DES, AES) and asymmetric (RSA) algorithms, enhance application security.
