Solid Strengthens Wind River Partnership with Release of solidDB for VxWorks

CUPERTINO, Calif. (November 13, 2006) — Solid™ Information Technology, the only provider of fast, always-on and affordable databases used in more than 3,000,000 mission-critical deployments worldwide, today announced the general availability of solidDB for VxWorks, reinforcing the company’s strategic partnership with Wind River. Developers building on Wind River’s VxWorks platform, the world’s most widely adopted real-time operating system for device software applications, have long relied on solidDB to address the stringent performance, availability and scalability demands of their applications. solidDB for VxWorks is further optimized to address the unique requirements of VxWorks users.

The flagship solidDB is well-known as a relational database designed to be embedded into applications where extremely fast, always-on data access is required. solidDB is the only data management platform that combines fully transactional, in-memory and disk-based database engines with carrier-grade high availability into a single, compact and affordable product. Both in-memory and disk-based engines can work simultaneously and share the same standard programmatic interfaces. This characteristic also applies to advanced functionalities such as replication and high availability, significantly reducing the complexity, time and cost of developing new applications.

solidDB for VxWorks is additionally optimized for seamless inclusion in a VxWorks environment, where there are unique requirements to execute applications within extremely rigid response times, and to run with minimal memory and processing resources.

“As the level of sophistication among device end-users increases, so does demand for advanced, feature-rich device software and services, such as e911, push-to-talk and VoIP,” said Warren Kurisu, director of product management at Wind River. “The advanced performance, high availability, and embedded qualities of solidDB for VxWorks give software developers across multiple vertical industries more power to meet this demand.”

“As real-time applications get richer, they need robust data management functionality, just as conventional ones do.” said Curt Monash, Ph.D., President, Monash Information Services. “Solid’s products are designed for — and well established in — the market for embeddable, often real-time database systems.”

“Solid’s unmatched track record for helping embedded developers exceed application performance requirements, coupled with our ability to help cut time-to-market and project costs, makes solidDB for VxWorks an ideal solution for any developer building on the industry-leading VxWorks real-time operating system,” said Paola Lubet, vice president of marketing, Solid Information Technology. “solidDB for VxWorks underscores Solid’s commitment to providing continued support to existing VxWorks customers while expanding Solid’s overall share of the VxWorks market.”
